Steve Denton is one of the most popular and richest Tennis Player who was born on September 5, 1956 in Kingsville, Texas, United States. Denton was placed at World No. 12. ATP Rankings in singles and No. 2 in doubles, both in 1983. Denton was famous for his huge serve. He also used a unique service technique that involved taking two steps ahead before hitting the ball. Present ATP rules ban such a motion (or any other service movement that involves an accelerated or walking start). The year 1984 saw Denton established a new record in service at 38 miles per hour (222 km/h) which would last for 13 years, until that record was challenged in the year 1997. Denton made his first head coaching debut at Texas A&M–Corpus Christi in 2001. In his five seasons there, he led the Islanders to three Southland Conference regular-season championships, two tournament championships, and the team’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He was named Southland Conference Coach of the Year twice, in 2004 and 2005. He finished with a 64–48 overall record.
He made it to six singles finals in singles, most notable was his participation in the Australian Open (in 1981 and 1982) as well as The Cincinnati Masters (in 1982). He also took home the doubles title 18 times (including his participation in the US Open and the Canada Masters) in 1982, while also finishing 23 more doubles finals.
After becoming an All-American in the University of Texas in 1978, Denton spent nine seasons playing on an organization called the ATP Tour. It was not set until thirteen years after. After leaving the pros and moving into Corpus Christi, Texas, as a coach for several local junior teams. The year 2001 was the time he began the college coach career at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. He led the team to 3 conference titles as well as an unprecedented NCAA competition. Then, in 2006, he quit to be the head coach of Texas A&M University.
On August 8, 2006, Denton became the head men’s tennis coach at Texas A&M University. After struggling for two years in Big 12 Conference play, Denton led the Aggies to a 5-1 conference record and 2nd-place finish in his third year, earning Big 12 Coach of the Year honors.
